REGRET Phase III

Realisation of a Life Unlived
Regret Phase III.jpg

Regret – Phase III:  Realisation of a Life Unlived explores the moment when the stories we tell ourselves about the past finally begin to lose their hold.

The narrowing of the hourglass, traditionally the dispenser of time, becomes the point of realisation. Instead of receiving more time, the figure is left with the endless stream of internal dialogue that has occupied his mind while living in the past. Words that once justified, explained, bargained and imagined another outcome begin to dissolve as he searches for evidence that he has been participating in life.

The fading text suggests the gradual collapse of the fantasies that sustained the belief that the past could somehow be rewritten. Time itself cannot be recovered, replenished or persuaded to return.

The work reflects on the moment we recognise that regret is a narrative we construct around an event from the past. When those narratives finally dissolve, what remains is the quiet understanding that time was never an infinite resource, and that life can only ever be lived in the present.
