unexpected implications

Unexpected Implications grew from an interest in the subtle ways control can emerge within relationships.

The bird, a symbol of freedom and independence, is restrained by a fine golden thread. What appears delicate at first glance gradually reveals itself as something more restrictive. In relationships, control does not always announce itself openly. It can appear through expectations, good intentions or gestures that seem harmless, yet slowly begin to limit expression, independence and choice.

The work reflects on the complexity of intimacy and the ease with which care and devotion can become entangled with control. Often, the implications of our actions are very different from what we intended, leaving restraints that neither person fully recognised when they first appeared.
